Roundup: Heath football shuts out Northridge

The Heath football team raced out to a 35-0 lead at halftime Friday and cruised to a 54-0 victory at Northridge in Licking County League-Cardinal Division play.

Connor Corbett opened the scoring a 13-yard touchdown run, and it was followed by Brayden Bayles’ 47-yard TD pass to Daylen McIntyre. Bayles of 32 yards and Corbett 9 yards added scoring runs in the first half before Bayles returned an interception for a score for the Bulldogs (5-3, 3-0), who host Newark Catholic with the Cardinal title on the line next Friday.

Lane Hess threw for 69 yards and ran for 33 for the Vikings (1-7, 1-2). Cameron Branigan made a team-high 5 1/2 tackles.

Newark falls in second half

Four turnovers undid Newark in a 21-7 loss at Central Crossing in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.

The Wildcats went to halftime tied at 7 for the second consecutive week, but they again could not get into the end zone down the stretch.

Newark jumped out to the early lead as Davie scored on a 2-yard run in the first quarter. He led the Wildcats with 92 yards rushing on 18 carries, and he also caught three passes for 51 yards from Steele Meister, who also hit Brayden Tosi three times for 20 yards.

Max Durbin led Newark’s defense with eight tackles. Calvin Untied added 5 1/2 tackles and Preston Lunsford five as the Wildcats (2-6, 0-3) made seven tackles for loss.

Malik Kamara ran for 158 yards and a score for the Comets (4-4, 2-1). Dylan Phillipi also threw a touchdown pass to Anthony Whatley.

Valley edged late

Kam Walker returned an interception for a score and also caught a touchdown pass for Licking Valley in a 30-26 loss at Lima Central Catholic.

Valley (4-4) rallied from a 16-6 halftime deficit to take a 19-16 lead on Hayden Rodgers’ TD passes of 5 yards to Walker and 45 yards to Alex Phelps. After the Spartans (5-3) answered, the Panthers again took the lead early in the fourth quarter on Rodgers’ 31-yard TD pass to Gavin Bragg.

Gabe Cira’s 10-yard TD run gave the Spartans the victory. Cira’s 142 yards on 21 carries supported Carson Parker, who ran for 190 yards on 27 carries and also was 10-for-20 passing for 160 yards.

Rodgers was 9-for-18 for 221 yards, and Ayden Stalnaker caught two passes for 90 yards. Trent Markus ran eight times for 60 yards.

GCA wins

Landen Pound’s goal off a Brianna Hubbard assist in the first half stood up as Granville Christian picked up a 1-0 victory at Delaware Christian in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.

Jayden Leija made seven saves for the Lions (9-5-1, 1-4).

Johnstown beats Zanesville

Andrew Pittman, Agustin Escutia and Chance McGinnis scored for Johnstown on Thursday in a 3-1 victory at Zanesville in LCL play.

Keaton Curnette had two assists and Wyatt Toney one for the Johnnies (7-5-2, 3-2). Calvin Hurt made six saves.
