Roosters v Broncos: Victor Radley sin binned twice in massive boilover

Radley #Radley

He’s one of the NRL’s hardest hitters so it was no surprise to see Roosters lock Victor Radley find himself on the wrong side of the referees following the crackdown on high shots.

Radley was sent to the sin bin twice in the opening 42 minutes of his side’s shock loss to the Broncos at the SCG on Saturday night.

After 12 minutes, Radley earned himself a 10-minute break when he cleaned up Brisbane five-eighth Albert Kelly in attempting to apply some kick pressure.

The hit was initially cleared on the field by referee Peter Gough but Radley was penalised on the advice of the bunker.

With the man advantage, the Broncos were able to take it up to their more-fancied opponents, going into half time two-point leaders courtesy of a long-range intercept try by David Mead.

Hoping to start the second half in the same vein they did the first, Broncos backrower Tevita Pangai Junior made a strong run, bowling over 18-year-old halfback Sam Walker in the process.

Self-appointed Roosters enforcer Radley was keen to defend his number seven and met Pangai with some heavy contact on his next run.

Play was allowed to continue but again Gough was alerted to some high contact, calling Radley back and sending him to the sin-bin.

Incredibly, Radley wasn’t done there, going on report for the third, and fourth, times when he collected Jamayne Isaako high in the 65th minute and carried on with a tackle on Xavier Coates just a few minutes later.

The madness wasn’t done there, with Broncos prop Matt Lodge sent to the bin for a high shot of his own on Radley moments later.

All the while, Brisbane pulled off one of the upsets of the season, running out 34-16 winners as another long-range Mead try, his third four-pointer for the game, sealed the boilover.

More to come.
