Better prepare yourselves, The Rookie: Feds fans. Niecy Nash revealed details about her future as Simone Clark, and she’s just in the dark as viewers are.

Back in April, fans of The Rookie were delighted to learn that the cop drama scored a season 6 renewal. Amid the excitement, some started to wonder about the show’s spin-off, The Rookie: Feds, revolving around Niecy’s character who is an FBI trainee at Quantico. As folks may know, ABC ordered a full season of the new show after just three episodes in September 2022. What’s more, TVLine reported that The Rookie: Feds averaged over 4 million total viewers throughout its first season.

Despite the drama’s major success, Niecy gave a disappointing update when asked about a potential season 2. “I haven’t heard anything — I’m the same as you,” she told TVLine in late May. “I’m a lady in waiting.”

While the cards are currently up in the air for The Rookie: Feds, Niecy does have high hopes that she’ll back in her FBI vest sooner rather than later.

She continued: “I love my job at Rookie: Feds. I love the people that I work with, so being able to do another season of it would be like heaven to me.”

Unlike its parent show, The Rookie: Feds ended season 1 with no real cliffhangers. Viewers saw Simone attempt to throw herself a birthday party, which got sidelined when the FBI was sent to look into a federal agent being buried alive in the Las Vegas desert. While the case ended with shots fired, she did manage to celebrate her special day. Simone also took care of her ailing father after a hospital stint.

As for what Niecy hopes for in a potential season 2, she already has a few ideas. Aside from diving into Simone’s relationship with her family, she’d love to see what will cause the current FBI rookie to question her current life choices.

“I want to see her really tested, because she comes across in most cases as unflappable,” she told the outlet. “But I want to see where the cracks are. That’s where all the fun is.”
