Liv Morgan finally ascended to the top of the women’s division earlier this year, having the biggest night of her career at Money in the Bank. Less than two hours after winning the contract, Morgan cashed it in on Ronda Rousey, winning the SmackDown Women’s Title. She then successfully defended that title in controversial fashion against The Rowdy One at SummerSlam.

Ronda Rousey Wins At Extreme Rules

Morgan faced Rousey again tonight at Extreme Rules, the challenger running the risk of losing three matches in a row at premium live events to Morgan. Thankfully for Rousey, that didn’t happen, and her reputation has been restored somewhat. The former UFC Champion didn’t finish off Morgan as quickly as she might have liked, but she definitely won the match in a way that will have suited her.

Rousey was so keen to make Morgan tap out on Saturday night that she wore gear with the word submit written all over it. Although the now-former champion refused to tap, Rousey got the next best thing. Morgan, with Rousey’s leg locked around her neck, slowly had the life choked out of her. It was eventually evident that Morgan had passed out, at which point the referee called for the bell and declared Rousey the new champion.

Morgan And Rousey Go Extreme

Prior to Rousey bringing the match to an end, both Superstars made the most of its Extreme Rules stipulation. The baseball bat Morgan brought to the ring was felt by both women, and neither held back. The marks from it could be seen on both their bodies almost immediately. The match also ended amid the debris of a table that had been broken along the way, and one on which Rousey was pinned, the closest Morgan came to retaining her title which wasn’t that close at all.

Now that Rousey is champion once again, the summer of Morgan is officially over. A summer that probably lasted longer than most fans expected. While many people wanted Morgan to have her moment in the sun, fans turned quickly after her win at SummerSlam only happened because the referee didn’t see her tap out. The reign happened nonetheless, and on Friday, we may find out whether Morgan gets a rematch or someone new steps up to Rousey.
