Ron Holland, Duncanville (Texas) five-star and one of the nation’s top prospects, decommitted from the University of Texas on Friday.

The 6-foot-8 forward will re-open his recruitment but said Texas will “still be one of my top schools of choice,” he said in a statement posted to social media.

Holland, SBLive’s National Boys Basketball Player of the Year for 2022-23, signed with the Longhorns in November and reaffirmed his commitment after head coach Chris Beard was fired in January following a third-degree felony for family violence.

After interim coach Rodney Terry led the Longhorns to the Elite Eight in March, Holland voiced his support for Terry as he was being hired to fill the seat full-time.

Before he committed to Texas, Holland took official visits to Arkansas, Kentucky, Memphis and UCLA.

Holland averaged 20.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.0 steals during his senior season, leading Duncanville to a No. 3

He played in the McDonald’s All-American Game and was the MVP of the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland in early April.
