Romelu Lukaku transfer news: Inter Milan reject massive Chelsea bid plus player swap for star striker

Inter Milan have rejected a formal offer of a guaranteed $119 million from Chelsea for star striker Romelu Lukaku this week.

The Italian champions were approached by the UEFA Champions League titleholders with Marcos Alonso included in the deal, but it was turned down by the Serie A club.

Inter consider Lukaku as “untouchable” and last season’s MVP was vital in their first Scudetto success since 2009-10.

Although the Nerazzurri expect Chelsea to make them another offer for the 28-year-old, they plan to keep him after already selling Achraf Hakimi to Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Lukaku, who played for the Blues between 2011-14 and was regularly farmed out on loan, now has a decision to make having already seen title-winning coach Antonio Conte and Hakmi leave Giuseppe Meazza this summer.

Former SS Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi is the new boss in charge and there could be another blow to the squad if Christian Eriksen is deemed unfit to play in Italy again after his on-pitch collapse at UEFA Euro 2020 this summer which saw the Denmark star fitted with a heart starter.

Lukaku is under contract until 2024 with wages of nearly $9 million per season and is now thought to be weighing up his options after Inter Milan owners, Suning, imposed strict financial conditions on the club which make sustained success unlikely.

Teammate Lautaro Martinez is also a wanted man with no progress regarding a contract extension at present.
