Robby McCrorie is Man Utd transfer target as Rangers keeper also chased by Polish champions

Manchester United, Hull City and Polish champions Rakow Częstochowa are all interested in giving Rangers ace Robby McCrorie a fresh start away from Ibrox.

The Light Blues back-up goalkeeper has made it clear to Gers chiefs he doesn’t want to spend another season on the bench. And having signed former England Jack Butland on a lucrative four year deal, boss Michael Beale had reluctantly agreed to listen to offers for the 25-year-old. Now it appears to a three-way chase for the Scotland squad shot-stopper is developing.

Old Trafford scouts have been keeping an eye on McCrorie for the past year and remain keen despite the £44million capture of Inter Milan goalie Andre Onana. Hull and Polish giants Rakow are also in the hunt and along with United have made contact with McCrorie’s agents for clarity on the current state of play. Rangers are hoping to land a fee in the region if £1m although sources close to the player reckon a sum closer to £500,000 could be agreeable so long as the add-on bonuses are attractive enough for the Ibrox outfit.

It’s just 10 months since McCrorie signed a new deal which tied him to his boyhood heroes until 2025. But he is now set to move on after heart-to-heart talk with Beale over his first-ream prospects for the season ahead.

McCrorie penned his new deal believing he’d be given the chance to succeed Allan McGregor as the Light Blues’ No.1 But the arrival of Butland on a megabucks deal has forced him into the realisation that he is destined to be stuck on the bench again.

Having decided he can wait in the Ibrox shadows no longer, McCrorie – who joined Gers with twin brother Ross when they were just eight – has now got his wish for a move. And he will be allowed to leave before September’s transfer deadline so long as an acceptable bid materialises.
