Robbie Savage ‘ruins’ West Ham’s magical Europa Conference League win over Fiorentina

Robbie Savage was widely panned by Twitter users as a result of his over-the-top commentary following West Ham United’s historic victory over Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final. The Hammers clinched their first major trophy since 1965 thanks to Jarrod Bowen’s late goal after Said Benrahma’s opener from the penalty spot was cancelled out by a fine volleyed equaliser courtesy of Giacomo Bonaventura.
There were tears of joy on the pitch and in the stands as West Ham revelled in their latest European triumph after the final whistle, although some fans were left frustrated with Savage’s commentary as he screamed down his microphone over the top of the celebrations. The former Wales midfielder was particularly excited as Hammers boss David Moyes joined in with the chants being sung by his players, prompting Savage to shout: “Go on Moysey! Look at Moysey, West Ham really are massive!”
His verbal input did not go down too well on social media following the post-match celebrations, prompting some viewers to accuse him of spoiling the moment for West Ham supporters watching the game on BT Sport. @toontastic was among those left thoroughly unimpressed by Savage’s commentary, posting on Twitter: “I feel sorry for the West Ham fans watching this, having their fantastic moment ruined by Robbie Savage.”
“Robbie Savage is ruining it as usual, mute his f****** microphone,” added @TheKopWatch, while @superspurs131 wrote: “One thing I have learned tonight… Robbie Savage is the worst commentator in football history.”

@BGinge8, meanwhile, said: “Would have quite enjoyed watching West Ham win this if not for Robbie Savage trying desperately to get an iconic quote on commentary every 30 seconds the absolute whopper.” Many other viewers offered similar takes on Savage, with @MattClark08 adding: “It amazes me how BT Sport think Robbie Savage offers anything for viewers. I didn’t think he could be any more excruciating. I was wrong.”
@BackseatsmanLFC was even more scathing in his review of Savage as he declared: “Robbie Savage is the worst in the business and it’s not remotely close. BT Sport could improve their coverage immensely by replacing him with silence.”
West Ham’s players and staff went on to ramp up their post-match celebrations after the full-time whistle, with the Irons having fully banished their demons from last year’s Europa League semi-final defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt by putting things right against Fiorentina. Hammers skipper Declan Rice was left in awe of the occasion after what may have been his last competitive game for the club, with the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal said to be chasing his signature in advance of next season.
“Tonight, the lads have been so on it,” Rice told BT Sport. “We had a real belief. I’m not just happy for us, the manager, the fans, but everyone that gives their all to help us perform. I’m not just happy for me, I’m happy for them. I’m so, so happy.
“When he [Bowen] ran through on goal I said it out loud to myself: ‘This is your time’. As soon as you see it hit the back of the net you don’t know what to do. I’m still in shock now. It’s incredible. We got here two hours before and it was full. The fans, look at them.
“This is what it means to us and to me. I love this club, they’ve made me one of their own. I cannot describe what I feel when I talk about West Ham fans. I’m just so, so happy. Without a doubt the best day in my career. It’s not going to hit me, to be honest with you, I’m just going to try and take this moment in.”
