RNLI Moelfre inshore lifeboat Enfys 2 was launched shortly after 10pm this evening (28/07/21) to assist a fishing boat in difficulties at Moelfre Bay.
The volunteer crew were leaving the station following our weekly exercise when the tasking request came from the Holyhead based Coastguard to assist a small 18ft fishing boat whose occupants had dialled 999 when they suffered a mechanical and electrical failure. The two persons on board were shining torches which were quickly spotted from the lifeboat station.
The ILB was quickly on scene and transferred an RNLI crew member onto the casualty vessel to assist the two occupants in receiving and setting up the tow and also recovering the anchor that had been thrown over the stern. The vessel was new to the owner, and having only bought it today, and it was their first trip out. They were unfamiliar with the vessel and didn’t have sufficient safety equipment on board.
The casualty vessel was towed to Traeth Bychan where they were met by Moelfre Coastguard team, who were waiting ashore to assist the casualties to recover the vessel. Safety advice was given, and the ILB returned to the boathouse to be made ready for her next call to service.
