Rishi Sunak will face prime minister’s questions today on his first full day as leader.
The new prime minister will be questioned by Sir Keir Starmer in the Commons from noon, when he is likely to be quizzed on how the government plans to close a £40 billion black hole in the country’s finances.
Sunak will meet also meet Jeremy Hunt, the chancellor, to discuss his proposals to increase taxes and squeeze public spending. The prime minister is considering whether to delay a fiscal statement, effectively the first budget under his premiership, scheduled for Monday.
