Richarlison wants to copy Ronaldinho and “buy an island with many women” when he retires

Brazil face Serbia in their World Cup opener on Thursday and Richarlison has made a frank admission before the tournament – following in the footsteps of Ronaldinho

Richarlison has joked that he would like to copy Ronaldinho by buying an island “with a lot of women” as Brazil prepare for their World Cup opener against Serbia on Thursday.

The Selecao head into the tournament as one of the favourites with Brazil the number one ranked team and they will be looking to ease out of a group that also features Cameroon and Switzerland. Brazil won their final two matches before the World Cup with an aggregate score of 8-1, dispatching Tunisia and Ghana.

Tottenham forward Richarlison could play a huge role for Brazil at the tournament, with the 25-year-old playing in a central striker role in their most recent friendly win. Neymar is expected to play as the No.10, with Vinicius Jr and Raphinha out wide in a dynamic-looking Brazil attack.

In the build-up to the World Cup, Richarlison, however, conducted an interview on Brazilian TV in which he discussed his plans for retirement. As cited by Marca, Richarlison was asked what he planned to do when he gives up playing and he gave an interesting response.

He was asked: “Do you have an idea of what you will do when you retire?” Richarlison replied: “I am going to buy an island and I will stay there with a lot of women, like that photo of Ronaldinho.”

As mentioned, Ronaldinho posted a famous image partying on an island with a number of bikini-clad women. The 2005 Ballon d’Or winner became known for his party lifestyle after he hit the big time.

But Richarlison still has some way to go if he is to have a similar impact on the Brazil national team. Ronaldinho is seen as one of the greatest players to ever play the game, having won a number of major honours both as an individual and as a team.

He started his career at his native Gremio, before moving to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain for his first big move into Europe. Ronaldinho then moved onto Barcelona, where he really cemented himself as a world star, scoring 22 goals in his first season at the club. He then backed that up with a further 72 goals in four seasons.

That was enough to help Ronaldinho win the Ballon d’Or in 2005, with the Brazilian also being named in the UEFA Team of the Year on three occasions. He went onto represent AC Milan, where he was at the peak of his powers, before moving back to Brazil with Flamengo.
