The Premier League chief executive, Richard Masters, has revealed a date has been set to deal with Manchester City’s charges for 115 alleged rule breaches — but that he is unable to reveal when it is.

Appearing before MPs, Masters defended the Premier League’s process over charges against Everton and Nottingham Forest for breaching profit and sustainability (PSR) rules, and insisted that the “volume and character” of the City charges were different.

He also suggested that approval of a proposed takeover of Everton by the US investment firm 777 Partners had been held up because the Premier League had not received “satisfactory answers”.
