Richard Madeley and Mick Lynch in spat on GMB as viewers slam ‘Alan Partridge style meltdown’

Partridge #Partridge

Good Morning Britain viewers have been left entertained this morning, after Richard Madeley started “ranting” at an interviewee. Speaking to the General Secretary of the RMT union, Mick Lynch, Richard said that many people were “appalled” that Network Rail employees were choosing to strike over the Christmas period.

He asked Mr Lynch “whatever happened to Christmas kindness?” and questioned why the union could not have arranged for the strikes to take place in January, instead. Richard Madeley continued: “Why do you have to target people at Christmas?

“Because you’re going to be putting people out of business, who run hotels, who run restaurants, who run bars and retailers. This is the time of year where they make their money and you are robbing them of their income for the coming year, many of them are saying they are going to go bust.”

But Mr Lynch was not perturbed by Richard Madeley’s line of questioning, simply telling him that it is “not Christmas” yet. He said: “Well we’re not targeting Christmas, it isn’t Christmas yet Richard. I don’t know when your Christmas starts but mine starts on Christmas Eve.”

Mr Lynch then attempted to continue his point, but was constantly interrupted by Richard Madeley talking about “commercial Christmas”. In fact, Mr Lynch was unable to finish his point altogether because Richard would not stop talking over him.

“If you let me finish the question…if you let me finish the answer. Richard, you’re just talking to yourself at the minute, you’re ranting. Richard, you’re ranting”, he said, still unable to get a word in edgeways.

When Richard finally paused to let Mr Lynch speak, he said: “Right, have you finished then? Because you’re just ranting now.” And GMB viewers were heartily entertained by the exchange, taking to Twitter to praise Mr Lynch for the way he handled Richard.

@mr_adam101 said: “Well said #mikelynch. #gmb presenters need to listen. Richard made himself look very stupid and Kate ignored the point he made and made the same antagonistic point. The strike starts after the closure of the railways and will impact maintenance period. Not commuter/travel period!”
