Former NFL coach and current ESPN commentator Rex Ryan wouldn’t be surprised to see Tom Brady and Sean Payton team up to join the Washington Commanders in the future.
Ryan addressed that possibility during Sunday’s episode of NFL Countdown:
“I’m telling ya, watch the Washington Commanders in this. Here’s why I say it could happen. There’s a strong possibility that there’s going to be a change in ownership. And when that happens, these owners aren’t tied into that coach. And to me, I can see a Sean Payton, Tom Brady. We talk about Miami, well it wasn’t just Miami contacting Brady, it was Sean Payton, it was going to be that marriage of those two. So, I could possibly see that down the road if he doesn’t sign with the Raiders immediately. I could see this as a possibility.”
The future of Brady and Payton is one of the biggest talking points of the entire NFL offseason with the quarterback connected to teams such as the Las Vegas Raiders and the former New Orleans Saints head coach tied to openings with the Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals and others.
Washington doesn’t have a surefire franchise quarterback after starting Taylor Heinicke, Carson Wentz and Sam Howell this season, but it does have Ron Rivera as head coach.
Yet, as Ryan mentioned, there may eventually be a change of ownership.
The possibility of bringing the greatest quarterback of all-time together with a coach who won the Lombardi Trophy with the Saints would surely be an enticing one for any potential buyer, especially for a franchise that hasn’t won a playoff game since the 2005 campaign.
It may seem like a long shot, but Ryan believes it is a possibility as the Commanders look to build a potential contender after years of struggles.
