As announced by the club on Monday evening, Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero will not remain at the club upon the expiry of his contract at the end of this season.

According to the BBC’s Mike Minay, Sergio Aguero was informed about his future in a private meeting earlier on Monday by Pep Guardiola.

Immediately after, the striker was called by Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, who thanked him for his contribution to the club, it’s history, and gave the news of a statue being constructed outside the Etihad Stadium – alongside the planned statues for Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero.

In a statement from the Club’s Chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak had this to say on the illustrious Manchester City career of the Argentine forward.

“Sergio’s contribution to Manchester City over the last 10 years cannot be overstated. His legend will be indelibly etched into the memories of everyone who loves the Club and maybe even in those who simply love football.”

Sergio Aguero, who will leave the club as its all time leading goal scorer, will be given a statue, alongside those currently in work to honour Sergio’s former team-mates David Silva and Vincent Kompany, according to the club.

Along with the statue, he will be remembered through a permanent mosaic at the City Football Academy.
