Reports: Cleveland Browns fire two offensive assistant coaches following playoff exit

CLEVELAND — Just days after the Cleveland Browns’ 45-14 loss against the Houston Texans in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, the team is reportedly making some offensive changes.
According to Ian Rapport of the NFL Network, the Browns have fired running backs coach Stump Mitchell. Additionally, tight ends coach T.C. McCartney will not be retained.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, there were reports that offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt had been fired, but according to Rapport, Van Pelt remains under contract. The Browns have made no other final decisions while going through offensive staff evaluations.
The changes happened Tuesday, according to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports. Anderson also noted that some of the players were upset by the news.
Mitchell, a former NFL running back, has been part of the Browns organization since 2019, serving as the run game coordinator/running backs coach. McCartney was named the tight ends coach in 2022 following two seasons with the Browns as an offensive assistant. McCartney also spent the 2014 season with the Browns serving as an offensive assistant.
