Offseason business is officially underway for the Golden State Warriors.

To start off NBA draft week, one of the pieces of Golden State’s championship core is reportedly set to enter unrestricted free agency.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Draymond Green is declining his $27.5 million player option for the 2023-24 season and will enter unrestricted free agency this summer. Earlier reports indicated the Warriors expected Green to decline his option with the team.

Green’s agent, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN that the former Defensive Player of the Year will continue to talk to Golden State and explore all options, including sign-and-trades and free agency. The Warriors are “motivated” to sign Green to a new deal, per Wojnarowski.

During the 2022-23 regular season, Green averaged 8.5 points on career-best 52.7% shooting from the field to go along with 7.2 boards and 6.8 assists over 73 games with the Warriors. In his 11th season in the association, Green earned a nod to the NBA’s All-Defensive second team. The 2022-23 season was Green’s eighth appearance on the NBA’s All-Defensive team.

Green has spent all of his career in Golden State since being drafted in the second round out of Michigan State in the 2012 NBA draft.

The NBA free agency period is set to begin on June 30.
