New Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans is already looking to build his staff using people from the 49ers. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Ryans and the Texans are requesting to interview 49ers passing game coordinator Bobby Slowik for their offensive coordinator opening.
This has become a common theme with 49ers coaches leaving the team for head coaching jobs. Robert Saleh and Mike McDaniel have both filled some spots on their coaching staffs with familiar faces from San Francisco.
The Texans’ OC will have a key role for Ryans as he looks to build a capable NFL offense, and they’ll likely be required to oversee the development of a young quarterback.
Slowik joined the 49ers in 2017 as an offensive quality control coach before moving up to offensive assistant in 2019, and then up to offensive passing game specialist in 2021. For the 2022 season he was promoted to passing game coordinator.
