New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is looking to cash in.
Alonso is switching agents and hiring Scott Boras’ company, BorasCorp, for his new representation, reports the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.
Alonso’s bound for free agency upon the completion of the 2024 season.
The slugger has been the subject of trade rumors over the last few months, with the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers reportedly showing interest in the 28-year-old before the previous trade deadline. However, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said he expects to begin next season with Alonso as the team’s first baseman.
Alonso has been one of baseball’s top power hitters since debuting in 2019, accumulating 192 homers and a .528 slugging percentage in 684 games.
The three-time All-Star earned $14.5 million in 2023 and is arbitration-eligible in 2024.
