  • India have finished their first innings at 416
  • Team India’s stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah stunned the cricketing fraternity with his batting skills in the opening session on day 2 of the Edgbaston Test match. The right-handed batsman scored 29 runs off Stuart Broad, who conceded a total of 35 runs.

Broad, who had become only the 3rd pacer to complete 550 wickets in Test cricket a few minutes back, bowled a forgettable over and went for 35 runs. As Bumrah schooled the legendary pacer, the Twitterati was in all awe of the stand-in captain.

The knock reminded many of Yuvraj Singh, who had smashed Yuvraj Singh for six back-to-back sixes in T20 World Cup 2007.

Bowling the 84th over India’s first innings, Broad was hit for a boundary on the first ball while the pacer conceded five wides on the next delivery. Bumrah hit Broad for a six on the next delivery, which was a no-ball.

The right-handed batsman hit three back-to-back boundaries on the next three deliveries before hitting a six on the 5th ball. Bumrah ran a single on the final delivery.

It was a forgettable spell for Broad, who now holds the records for leaking most runs in an innings of a T20I and a Test match. The record of most runs scored in an over was previously held by Brian Lara, George Bailey and Keshav Maharaj.

Courtesy of Bumrah’s finishing skills, India breached the 400-run mark and finished at 416 in 84.5 overs. Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja were star performers for the visitors on day 1. The duo stitched a crucial 222-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

Rishabh was dismissed for 146 on day 1 while Jadeja breached the 100-run mark on day 2. He was dismissed for 104. England are up against a world-class fast bowling line-up and have their task cut out.
