Remembering Laurie McHugh: A Pillar Of Hope And Vision For New Jersey’s Cannabis Industry
McHugh #McHugh
The community of New Hope Borough and Union Chill are feeling the loss of Laurie McHugh. As we try to come to terms with her sudden passing, it’s essential to remember and celebrate the lasting impact she’s made on our community and beyond.
Laurie had an impressive career that took her from international real estate to the New Hope Borough Council. No matter where she was, Laurie was known for her fairness, innovation and dedication to those she served.
From her roles in the real estate investment space to her family’s manufacturing company, Laurie was always up for a challenge, and extremely committed to growth and education.
But what truly set Laurie apart was her dedication to the community. She recently opened a Union Chill store in Lambertville, New Jersey, setting a high bar for the cannabis industry and was set to speak at the upcoming Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference in Chicago next month. Laurie wanted Union Chill to be an example of what a dispensary could achieve in terms of community involvement, social responsibility and business success.
Laurie’s influence reached far beyond business. She was passionate about healthy living and made a real difference by founding the Bucks County Dragon Boat Association, a group dedicated to inclusivity and combatting food insecurity. Her colleagues said it best: “Laurie was not just an exceptional person but also a true inspiration to all of us.”
During the pandemic, Laurie showed her leadership by supporting local businesses, proving how deeply she cared for her community. She wanted New Hope to keep going, even in the tough times, and she worked hard to make it happen.
Those who worked with Laurie at the New Hope Borough Council remember her as a strong leader and a friend. She was a true community member, from her work on the council to her efforts in setting up the borough’s first Junior Council.
Though the loss of Laurie McHugh weighs heavy on our hearts, we also feel gratitude. Grateful for the memories, the lessons and the lasting impact she’s left behind. Her legacy reminds us of the importance of community, vision and hard work.
As we come together in the coming weeks to remember and honor Laurie, we’ll reflect on her incredible spirit, her dedication and the difference she made in so many lives. Rest in peace, Laurie. Your memory will continue to inspire and guide us.
