The Blazers played their best quarter so far but were unable to make much of a dent in their deficit.

Through three quarters, Brogdon has 19 points, five assists and five rebounds. Victor Wembanyama has scored 20 points with six blocked shots.

The Blazers dominated the second quarter 31-21 to get back in to the game after losing the first quarter 38-24.

Scoot Henderson leads the Blazers with 13 points but picked up four personal fouls.

Jerami Grant has 11 points with six rebounds.

The Blazers shot 29.1% in the first half and made just 3 of 19 three-point attempts.

Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama scored 17 points with four rebonds, three assists and five blocked shots.

The Spurs shot 66.7% from the field and hit on 4 of 10 threes. Victor Wembanyama has 10 points and three assists.

Blazers coach Chauncey Billups said Simons felt ill Thursday morning when he woke up and didn’t improve much during the day.

Starters Deandre Ayton (right knee tendinitis) and Shaedon Sharpe (right adductor soreness) had already been ruled out.

Billups said Scoot Henderson would start at point guard with Malcolm Brogdon, Toumani Camara, Jerami Grant and Moses Brown.
