Wade Miley became the first Cincinnati Reds’ pitcher to throw a no-hitter since Homer Bailey in 2013, in a 3-0 win in Cleveland on Friday night.

It was Miley’s first career no-hitter in his 11th Major League Baseball season. He threw 114 pitches.

It was the 17th no-hitter in franchise history. It was the fourth no-hitter of the 2021 Major League Baseball season – fifth if Madison Bumgarner’s seven-inning no-no for the Arizona Diamondbacks is included. It was the second no-no of the week after the Baltimore Orioles’ John Means no-hit the Seattle Mariners. It’s the second time this season that Cleveland has been no-hit.

“It was fun. It was cool to be a part of – and I’m just happy to do it with this group of guys,” Miley, 34, told reporters afterward. “Once again, Tucker Barnhart – I just can’t say enough about what he’s done for me, and just everybody. … It’s been fun.”

“I’ve never really seen an entire team so happy for just one person in my career,” catcher Barnhart said after catching a no-hitter for the first time. “I’m very, very, very lucky and fortunate and grateful to be a part of that tonight.”
