After Tweeting May 11 that Elon Musk had identified a replacement CEO for Twitter, who would be starting in just six weeks, users on the platform began all sorts of investigations trying to figure out exactly who this replacement would be.
The wait, however, is over.
Musk Tweeted May 12 that former NBC Universal (CMCSA) – Get Free Report ad executive Linda Yaccarino will be coming on board as Twitter’s new CEO.
Musk said that she will be focusing “primarily on business operations, while I focus on product design & new technology. Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app.”

Twitter was quick to react to the news; the hashtag “RIP Twitter” started trending just before Musk made the announcement. A large sect of users on the platform think the new appointment marks the end of Twitter as they know it.
Others had a slightly different take, noting instead Yaccarino’s stances on diversity.
Some think that Yaccarino will limit the free speech Musk has so rigorously touted during his stint leading the platform.
Other users don’t understand what all the fuss is about.
Yaccarino — whose Twitter account has gained tens of thousands of followers since the announcement — said that she was leaving NBC, effective immediately, earlier in the day.
“It has been an absolute honor to be part of Comcast NBCUniversal and lead the most incredible team,” she said in a statement.
