Ray Liotta, best known for “Goodfellas,’ ‘Field of Dreams’ dies at 67

Actor Ray Liotta, best known for his roles in “Goodfellas, “Field of Dreams, and “Corrina, Corrina,” amongst many others, has died at the age of 67. Several news agencies including TMZ, NBC News and the New York Post report the announcement from his publicist. 

The actor reportedly died in his sleep while in the Dominican Republic filming a new movie, “Dangerous Waters.”

Liotta had several character actor roles over his career, but just as many leading roles that made him famous. His portrayal of Shoeless Joe Jackson in “Field Of Dreams” was unforgettable, but it was his role as real-life mobster Henry Hill in “Goodfellas” that gave him his status as a star. 

Other notable movies include “Wild Hogs,” “John Q.,” and “The Rat Pack” where he played music legend Frank Sinatra. And like many stars Liotta also had spots on TV’s “St. Elsewhere,” and “The Simpsons.”

Dominic Genetti was born and raised in St. Louis and has been in the media industry since 2003. He holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northwest Missouri State University, and has covered a variety of subjects including hard news, courts, enterprise features, and sports. From 2011 to 2013, Genetti wrote a syndicated baseball column that published daily throughout the country. He was also awarded the “Community Service” award from the Missouri Press Association for his efforts to bring light to a historic cemetery in disrepair in Hannibal, Missouri. Multimedia coverage is also part of Genetti’s repertoire. In 2011 he was named the GateHouse Media Videographer of the Year. Genetti has worked for newspapers in Missouri, Iowa, Texas, and Illinois.
