Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers made a costly mistake in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Down 17-7 and looking for some life in the fourth quarter, Flowers caught a pass and extended toward the end zone, but the ball was knocked loose and the result was a fumble in the end zone, which the Chiefs recovered.

Following the game, Flowers said that he thought he had made it in, but knows he needs to grow from the costly error, per NFL Network’s Michael Baca.

“Yeah, I thought I did, honestly,” Flowers told reporters after the game. “But I’ll learn from my mistakes.”

A touchdown and an extra point would have made it a three-point game early in the fourth quarter, but instead, the Chiefs maintained their 10-point lead. They ultimately held on for a 17-10 victory and are on their way to another Super Bowl.

For Flowers, he’ll have the offseason to reflect on the error and will look to make up for it next season.

Flowers was clearly frustrated on the sideline after what was a mistake-filled drive from him. Before the fumble, Flowers was flagged for a taunting penalty after a 54-yard catch, pulling the Ravens out of the red zone. A few players later, Flowers lost the ball at the goal line.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh didn’t fault Flowers for the mistake, though, saying he did what he was taught to do in the play, the ball just came out.

“We coach two hands when you reach for the end zone,” Harbaugh said. “He had two hands on the ball.”

Outside of the miscues from Flowers late in the game, he put together a solid performance for the Ravens, leading Baltimore’s offense with 115 receiving yards and a touchdown. The rookie has had a great start to his NFL career, picking up 858 receiving yards and five touchdowns on the year. The mistake was a costly one, but it was certainly a moment to learn for the young player.
