The NBA trade deadline is mere hours away as Thursday is the day that deals will have to be made. Either contenders in the league will make a deal to boost up their team’s chances or they will be left in the dust watching other teams make moves.
The Philadelphia 76ers are one of those contenders and led by Daryl Morey as their team president, one has to assume that he will make a move if it is out there to be made. He is not one to normally just sit on his hands at the deadline.
The Sixers have turned their attention to Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry as it appears that they have made him available as they enter a different phase in their franchise’s history. They have lost nine of their last 10 games and it appears that they are ready to enter a bit of a rebuild despite winning a title just two seasons ago in 2019.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Raptors are asking for Tyrese Maxey, Matisse Thybulle, and two first-round picks from Philadelphia in exchange for Lowry.
Lowry is a proven champion and despite his age, he turns 35 on Thursday, he is still an All-Star caliber point guard averaging 17.5 points, 7.5 assists, and 5.6 rebounds while shooting 39.5% for Toronto in the 2020-21 season. Giving up players like Maxey and Thybulle is risky due to their upside, but if Lowry helps bring a title to Philadelphia, then it’s all worth it.
