Rangers rookie Matt Rempe involved in SECOND savage brawl in 24 hours as Mathieu Olivier lands heavy blows and drags rival down to the ice in New York’s loss vs Columbus Blue …

Rempe #Rempe

Rangers rookie Matt Rempe found himself in yet another brutal fight on Sunday night, as he took a beating at the hands of Mathieu Olivier.

In the first period of Sunday night’s game between New York and the Columbus Blue Jackets, the 6ft 7ins giant was left in a heap after a short but savage brawl.

He had a 6ins advantage on Olivier but Rempe was on the end of several haymakers before being wrestled down on to the ice – much to the delight of the crowd in Columbus.

It means the 21-year-old has now been embroiled in a scrap in three of his first five appearances in the NHL.

Rempe dropped the gloves on his first shift while making his debut last week.

This fight came just 24 hours after Rempe and scrappy Flyers veteran Nicolas Deslauriers traded blows in Philadelphia on Saturday night.

Things actually started between the two during the pregame warmups, when both were seen jawing at each other.

‘He asked me in warmups,’ Rempe said. ‘He’s a real tough customer and said, “Let’s go.” It was a great fight. We were throwing bombs. It got the juices flowing, and it was unreal.’

A day later, the Calgary native was again spoken to during warmups and again his mettle was challenged on the ice.

On Saturday night, the rookie was involved in another brutal fight against Nicolas Deslauriers

This time, Rempe was left bloodied and bashed up after Olivier landed a number of heavy punches to the rookie’s face and head.

Rempe was eventually wrestled down on to the ice, prompting the referees to intervene and pick him back up to his feet.

The Blue Jackets won 4-2 in Columbus, snapping New York’s franchise record-tying 10-game win streak.

It has been quite a week for Rempe, who fought Islanders tough guy Matt Martin during his first shift in his NHL debut in a Stadium Series game.

He was also ejected for a hit to the head of New Jersey’s Nathan Bastian in New York’s 5-1 victory over the Devils on Thursday.
