ALLY McCOIST reckons Peter Haring was lucky to avoid an early red at Hampden.

And the Rangers legend believes VAR would have led to the Hearts midfielder being sent off.

Haring caught Calvin Bassey on four minutes – but ref Willie Collum flashed a yellow to the Austrian.

McCoist said: “At first I didn’t think it was that bad from where we are standing.

“But Connor Goldson’s reaction made me think it was worse than we first thought – and it was.

“Haring overstretches and catches Bassey on the ankle.

“With VAR next season, it’s probably a red card.”

Speaking of Bassey, Calvin Bassey is a man in demand and another English Premier League club have joined the race to sign the Rangers star.

After being in and around the first team last season, Bassey has enjoyed a sensational breakout campaign this year becoming a fixture in the Rangers side.

SunSport told how Aston Villa are the favourites to land the 22-year old in the summer, a move that would reunite with Bassey with former Gers boss Steven Gerrard.

However, the Villans are far from the only Premier League side keeping tabs on Bassey, who Rangers signed for a compensation fee of just £230,000 two years ago.

Now, Midlands rivals Wolves have joined the battle to sign the defender this summer, according to the Daily Record.

The report claims up to five Premier League teams are interested in Bassey, as well as sides from Serie A in Italy.

Bassey has seen his stock soar this campaign, with the Nigeria international regularly starring at both centre back and left back over the course of the campaign.

He was Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side’s stand out man as Rangers suffered that heart breaking Europa League final defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday, with his performance earning plaudits across the board.

The Light Blues certainly won’t let Bassey go on the cheap and he’s still under contract until 2024.
