Rain mixing with sleet Thursday afternoon, dangerous travel concerns

Good Thursday #GoodThursday

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Good Thursday morning. Temperatures are very cold again this morning as we are waking up in the teens with a wind chill in the single digits.

Road conditions remain awful and even impassable in spots due to everything being packed down and covered in ice. Please avoid travel if possible! Cloud cover will quickly move in through the late morning hours with a fairly breezy southeasterly wind kicking in. Temperatures will finally go above freezing later today as our highs will reach the upper 30s.

Today is a First Alert Weather Day for rain showers mixing with sleet through the late morning into the afternoon. Most locations will see one-tenth of an inch of rainfall and little to no sleet accumulation is expected. We are not so much concerned about the precipitation as we are the rapidly falling temperatures and refreezing of roadways by Friday morning. A few flurries or light snow showers are expected overnight into Friday morning with lows in the middle 20s.

Friday will be another very cold day with the breezy northwest winds keeping the wind chill in the teens for most of the day. Saturday will be sunny and very cold with highs in the lower 20s. Sunday is looking like a welcome change of pace with sunshine and highs in the upper 30s.

Next week is looking much warmer with temps back in the 50s for most of the week. Next week does look unsettled with chances for rain showers and thunderstorms.
