Raiders to release Hunter Renfrow, teeing up possible reunion with Derek Carr

Renfrow #Renfrow

The Las Vegas Raiders will be releasing wide receiver Hunter Renfrow at the start of the new league year on Wednesday, a move which will save the team $8.2 million against the salary cap. After five years with the team, Renfrow will be looking for a new home.

Renfrow had his best year with the Raiders in 2021 with Derek Carr throwing to him. He snatched 103 passes for 1,038 yards and 9 touchdown catches. The Clemson product was one of Carr’s favorite targets since he joined the Raiders but has fallen off with changes at play caller and quarterback.

The Saints are an obvious fit for Renfrow, as they were “very close” to striking a deal to acquire him at the trade deadline last year. New Orleans has an obvious need for a wide receiver as there are only three on the roster right now; they brought 13 wideouts for training camp last summer. Renfrow is a prototypical slot receiver, and that is likely the role he would play for the Saints.

It would be an interesting battle between Renfrow and A.T. Perry for that third spot with Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed on top of the depth chart. The Saints have the cap resources and have shown an interest in Renfrow, but can they pull it off?
