Former Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis is back in the NFL.

Lewis has agreed to join the Las Vegas Raiders as an assistant head coach on Antonio Pierce’s staff, according to ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio.

Lewis began his coaching career in the college ranks in 1981 and made the jump to the NFL in 1992 as a linebackers coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He then served as defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens and assistant head coach/defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders before being hired as head coach of the Bengals in 2003.

Lewis spent 16 seasons as head coach of the Bengals, leading Cincinnati to a 131-122-3 record and seven playoff appearances between 2003-2018 before he and the team parted ways.

Cincinnati subsequently hired Zac Taylor to succeed Lewis.

Lewis returned to the college ranks in 2019 as a special advisor at Arizona State. He served as the program’s co-defensive coordinator in 2020 before returning to a special advisor role from 2021 through 2023.

Pierce, who was named head coach of the Raiders this winter after going 5-4 as the interim head coach in 2023 following the firing of Josh McDaniels, spent time with Lewis at Arizona State from 2019-2021.

Pierce served in a variety of roles for the Sun Devils, including associate head coach and defensive coordinator, before becoming linebackers coach of the Raiders in 2022.

The two will now look to lead the Raiders to a winning record and back into the playoffs for the first time since the 2021 campaign.
