Damien Oliver’s fairytale win aboard Munhamek in his final race ride has set social media alight.

Racing fans around the world, as well as several of Oliver’s colleagues in the industry, took to their platforms to pay tribute to the revered rider following his incredible victory aboard the Nick Ryan trained gelding in the G3 Damien Oliver Gold Rush at Ascot on Saturday.

While Ryan may have struggled to find the words at the time, he managed to sum it up on his social media account how it felt to train Munhamek to take out the $1.5 million feature and give Oliver his last winner ever.

Racing.com’s Clint Hutchison, a part owner of Munhamek, used his X account to describe what it was like for him to be involved in one of racing’s great moments.

Modern day great James McDonald led a chorus of tributes to Oliver from his weighing room colleagues.

Oliver’s triumph aboard Munhamek was the final leg of a treble at Ascot on Saturday and he bows out of racing as the winner of 3189 races across 35 years of riding, including 129 Group 1 victories.
