BALTIMORE — The reward for information leading to the arrest of Rachel Morin’s killer has doubled to $20,000.

“We’re hoping to gain some momentum with this added reward,” the father of Rachel’s oldest child Matthew McMahon said.

It has been almost two months since the body of the mother of five was discovered along the Ma and Pa Heritage Trail in Harford County.

“All five of her kids, their world’s been shattered,” McMahon said. “Not only did they lose her mother, but they’ve been split apart. They’re living with three different fathers.”

WJZ sat down with Matthew McMahon, the father of Morin’s oldest child.

“If you look back on the progression of the case, the last big break we had was about two weeks in,” McMahon said.

That big break was the surveillance video of the suspect released last month. It was taken from the scene of a home invasion and assault in Los Angeles in March.

Detectives said DNA from that crime scene matches DNA found at Morin’s.

The Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler told WJZ last week that the case is far from cold, and his detectives have worked through more than 1,000 tips.

Meanwhile, Morin’s family is working with a local attorney’s office to track down new leads. The attorneys put up the money to double the reward.

“The more we get the images out there,” Morin Family Attorney Randolph Rice said. “The more the story runs, the better chance that somebody recognizes this individual.”

The attorneys also started a digital campaign to attract Spanish-speaking neighbors in the community earlier this month. So far, that campaign has gotten more than 81,000 views.

Now, they’re hoping more community members will join in and add to the reward.

“The more money we get into the reward, hopefully, the quicker we’ll catch the suspect and stop him from doing this to somebody else,” McMahon said.

All tips can be made to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.
