Quotes of the Day: Drouin, Armia, Hudon & Julien

Armia #Armia

BROSSARD – The Habs held their second scrimmage of training camp on Wednesday, with Team Red taking a 2-0 win over Team White.

Three players and head coach Claude Julien took to Zoom following the simulated game for daily media availabilities, and there was a lot of love going around for the Drouin-Suzuki-Armia line.

Jonathan Drouin on his line at training camp:

If we play like we practice, where we’re around the puck and we’re creating little plays [we’ll have success]. [Joel] Armia’s obviously got that long reach – he’s very good in the corners – and [Nick] Suzuki’s got great vision anywhere on the ice. We played together a bit at the end of last year before my [ankle injury]. We like playing with each other – it’s just bringing more speed to the game. We’ve got to add more speed to our line and make sure we’re beating guys one-on-one when we have the chance.

Charles Hudon on his case for a roster spot coming out of camp:

There are a lot of players here, but my goal is to make a good impression and do the right things every time I step onto the ice. To listen and do what I’m asked. We’ve made a couple of changes for the Penguins, and we’ll see what happens next. The decision is out of my hands – it’s Claude’s decision to make, so I’ll just keep doing what I need to do on the ice.

Joel Armia on potentially being matched up against Pittsburgh’s top line:

I really don’t care who I play against. I feel like I can play against anyone. Especially my line, with the skill we have – we can play against anybody.

Claude Julien on whether he’ll build his lines around containing Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin:

I’m going to make my lines not to defend against the Penguins, but to beat the Penguins. It depends on your approach — are you going into a series trying to defend, or are you trying to win? If you’re trying to win, you have to be on your toes and you have to attack.

Claude Julien on the Drouin-Suzuki-Armia line:

I’ve got a lot of confidence in all three guys. Jonathan has playoff experience with Tampa, and he played a really great series with them – so that’s an encouraging sign for us. Nick Suzuki has played on big stages forever – whether it’s the Memorial Cup last year to the World Junior Championships. I have a lot of confidence in him to do the right things and have success. Armia is an experienced guy – in the NHL playoffs and otherwise – and I think he’s going to perform extremely well. I put those three guys together because I think they can – and hopefully will – play a big role in us having some success.
