Queen’s funeral live: God Save The King sang as service draws to close – with King Charles to lead royal procession of coffin to Windsor

A number of items are resting on top of the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II.

First off is the Royal Standard, the flag which represents the Royal Family. It has four panels, and represents England, Scotland and Ireland.

Atop the standard is the Imperial State Crown.

It is made of gold and set with 2,868 diamonds, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds, 269 pearls and four rubies.

It contains jewels including the Black Prince’s Ruby, the Stuart Sapphire and the Cullinan II diamond.

St Edward’s Sapphire, set in the centre of the topmost cross, is said to have been worn in a ring by St Edward the Confessor and discovered in his tomb in 1163.

The crown was created for the coronation of the Queen’s father, King George VI, in 1937.

Next to the crown are the Sovereign’s sceptre and orb – both date back to 1661. They were presented to the Queen during her coronation.

 A wreath of flowers lay at the other end of the coffin, topped with a card bearing the message: “In loving and devoted memory – Charles R”.
