Russian President Vladimir Putin named Dmitry Medvedev, currently the deputy chairman of the Security Council, to another post — the first deputy chairman of the Military-Industrial Commission of the Russian Federation. Putin’s decree on the matter has been published on the official web portal for legal information.
According to the Commission’s regulations, a deputy chairman was not previously part of its structure. The person occupying this position has the right to hold meetings and create councils and working groups within the commission, according to Putin’s decree.
The chairman of the Military-Industrial Commission, which oversees the production of weapons for the Russian army, is Putin himself.
Dmitry Medvedev was President of Russia from 2008 to 2012, and the country’s prime minister from 2012 to 2020. In January of 2020, after leaving his post as prime minster, Medvedev became Deputy Chairman of the Security Council. The position was created specifically for him.
After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Medvedev became one of the most aggressive supporters of the war, and has made derogatory remarks about Putin’s opponents in the West and Ukraine. Medvedev has also regularly visited defense enterprises.
