Pundit issues emphatic Jack Grealish claim after confirmed Man City news
Grealish #Grealish
Jack Grealish has been included in the England squad despite his indifferent start to the season for Man City because of his versatility, according to Paul Robinson.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Tottenham and England goalkeeper insisted Grealish offers much more than the likes of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.
The 27-year-old is yet to register a goal or assist in five games across all competitions this season after struggling with a knock.
In Man City’s 2-1 comeback win over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday (14 September) he was dragged off just before the hour mark with his side 1-0 down.
Despite this, Gareth Southgate still named Grealish in his 28-man squad for England’s upcoming Nations League games with Italy and Germany on Thursday (15 September).
Man United duo Sancho and Rashford were overlooked despite their upturn in form although Rashford is carrying a muscle injury.
Sancho scored his third goal of the season as Man United beat Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League on Thursday night while Rashford has five goal contributions in six Premier League games this term.
“Grealish can play as a 10, he can play on the left, he can play on the right and central,” Robinson told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.
“Rashford plays right or central. Sancho plays wide and that’s it.
“Grealish just gives you a lot more as a squad member.”
Grealish has one goal and six assists in 23 games for England, including 12 starts.
He has only missed one squad when he had a shin injury in March 2021 since he received his first call up in September 2020.
In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed that Man City have just grudgingly accepted a bid “too big to ignore”.
