Pundit digs at Everton after update on beating Leeds United to Che Adams signing

The potential signing of Che Adams sums up the current state of Everton.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the toffees’ hunt for a new striker.

According to the Daily Mail (11 August), Everton have made a move to sign Southampton star Adams.

This comes following the departure of Richarlison and the long-term injury recently suffered by Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The 26-year-old scored seven goals in 30 Premier League games during the 2021-22 campaign.

Kenny claims Adams’ potential arrival says a lot about the current state of Everton.

“Yet again, he is not prolific, is he?” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“No disrespect to Adams but that just shows where Everton are at this moment in time. He isn’t a prolific scorer of goals.

“He got seven goals last season, he is a decent squad player. He isn’t the guy who will go out and get you 15 or 20 goals in a season.

“It’s one of those signings, he has Premier League experience, he is better than what they currently have with Calvert-Lewin injured.

“He will do, I guess. Does he improve them that much? I’m not sure.”

On 3 August, Football Insider revealed that Calvert-Lewin is facing three months on the sidelines after tearing his lateral collateral ligament.

Thanks to Calvert-Lewin’s injury, Everton went into their first Premier League game of the season, against Chelsea, without a senior striker.
