There almost aren’t enough adjectives to describe Jack Campbell’s career with the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was able to do anything and everything that was asked of him on and off the field for this team and be the heartbeat of the Hawkeyes.

Unanimous All-American, Butkus Award winner, Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. Those are just a few of the recent accolades that Campbell collected this season with Iowa.

His on the field performance has garnered him substantial interest by NFL teams across the league looking to rebuild their linebacking groups. Campbell’s mix of size, speed, and intelligence projects incredibly well and is a large reason why Pro Football Focus has Campbell among their top three 2023 NFL draft linebacker prospects.

Play Style: True Mike (middle linebacker)

Initial Round Projection: Day 2

Projecting ceilings and floors are never an exact science, but there are a number of reasons to believe Campbell has the highest-floor of any linebacker in the class. He has prototype size for the position at 6-foot-5, 246 pounds in addition to extensive experience taking on blocks. On tape in 2022, Campbell was the most assignment-sure middle linebacker in the class, earning an 85.6 grade against the run and 92.9 in coverage.

The only real knock on Campbell is the lack of high-end physical tools. He’s more than an adequate athlete to start at the next level, and he doesn’t possess the kind of range or pop on contact that the elite at the position does. – Renner, Pro Football Focus

Where PFF hits the nail on the head is that Campbell has the highest floor. You know what you are going to get with Jack Campbell. It is a fundamental, sound, smart player. One item that wouldn’t shock me would be to see Campbell take the negatives that are listed above and turn those into positives.

His entire career has been constant improvement and there is no reason that Jack Campbell doesn’t become one of the elite at this position at the next level.
