Princess Beatrice is ninth in line for the British throne, but following the death of Queen Elizabeth, she was promoted to one of four Counsellors of State.

According to the royal family’s website, Counsellors of State include the spouse of the sovereign, and the next four people in the line of succession who are over the age of 21. This means the current Counsellors of State are Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Andrew, and Andrew’s eldest daughter, Princess Beatrice.

Per the royal family, “Counsellors of State are authorised to carry out most of the official duties of the Sovereign, for example, attending Privy Council meetings, signing routine documents and receiving the credentials of new ambassadors to the United Kingdom.”

Following the Queen’s death, Princess Beatrice has been at Balmoral with the rest of the royal family. On Saturday, the royals left Balmoral Castle to attend a special service at Crathie Kirk, and after, they greeted well-wishers outside the castle gates. Beatrice and her sister, Eugenie, were spotted holding hands as they read tributes to their grandmother.

While neither Princess Beatrice nor Princess Eugenie has made a public statement, Beatrice’s husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi shared a sweet tribute to the Queen on his Instagram.

Edo wrote, “What an incredible woman and extraordinary mark she’s left on the entire world. She was the rock on which modern Britain was built.” He added, “Feeling very lucky that our little ones got to spend wonderful time with her this summer,” referencing their Sienna Elizabeth and Wolfie, Edo’s son from a previous relationship.
