Prince Harry has spoken to King Charles III about his cancer diagnosis and “He will be travelling to UK to see His Majesty in the coming days,” a source close to the duke said.

Buckingham Palace announced the king will postpone public engagements to focus on his health and “has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments.”

A source close to Prince Harry suggested he could be on a plane to see his father in person within days, in a sign of how seriously he is taking the sobering news: “The duke did speak with his father about his diagnosis. He will be travelling to UK to see His Majesty in the coming days.”

Harry and the king’s relationship has been rocky in recent years, including after the prince’s book Spare spilled royal secrets.

However, there were encouraging signs in November when there was a phone call between them at the time of Charles’ birthday.

Buckingham Palace said in its statement: “During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.

“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.

“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.

“His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”

The king was admitted to The London Clinic and was discharged on January 29, when Buckingham Palace said he had “rescheduled forthcoming public engagements to allow for a period of private recuperation.”

Charles’ news comes after Kate Middleton was in hospital for almost two weeks following abdominal surgery on January 16.

A Kensington Palace statement at the time she was discharged read: “The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery from surgery. She is making good progress.

“The Prince and Princess wish to say a huge thank you to the entire team at The London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided.

“The Wales family continues to be grateful for the well wishes they have received from around the world.”
