Preview: Coyotes Host Oilers at Mullett Arena on Monday

Fresh on the heels of a seven-round shootout against the Colorado Avalanche, the Arizona Coyotes are set to host the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night in their second game in as many nights.

Monday’s matchup against the Oilers marks the third-and-final time the two will meet this season.

Arizona has earned at least one point in eight straight home games, and another point in tonight’s matchup would mark its longest such streak since it went 9-0-2 from Oct. 3 – Nov. 21, 2013.

Forward Clayton Keller has a 12-game point streak of his own, making him the first-ever Coyotes player to accomplish that dating back to when the team relocated to The Valley for the 1996-97 season. In addition, the 24-year-old’s 80 points are just seven shy of setting a new Coyotes franchise record.

Forward Matias Maccelli tallied a goal against the Avalanche on Sunday, and continues to lead all NHL rookies in both assists (33) and points-per-games-played (.73). His 41 points trail scoring leader Matty Beniers by just nine, despite playing in 14 fewer games.

Player to Watch: Forward Nick Schmaltz has been stuck at 99 goals since March 9, but has still contributed six assists over his last five games. The 27-year-old has nine points in 15 career games against Edmonton.

ABOUT THE OILERSEdmonton most recently fell 4-3 in overtime against the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday, snapping their five-game winning streak, but is still 9-2-1 over its last 12 games. The Oilers’ offensive firepower is no secret, and superstar Connor McDavid leads the league in all offensive categories: assists (79), goals (60), and points (139).

It’s not just the McDavid show, though. The team leads the league in goals-for (286), power play (31.60%), and shooting percentage (11.8%), and is second in the league with 13 shorthanded goals. Leon Draisaitl’s 112 points are second-most in the league as well, and both he and McDavid have combined for 20 game-winning goals, which is – you guessed it – the most in the league.

Arizona allowed two power-play goals against Edmonton in last week’s 4-3 overtime loss.

Despite the Oilers’ offensive potency, they allow the 11th-most goals in the league at 3.32, just one spot behind Arizona’s mark of 3.42. In addition, their penalty kill ranks 24th at 75.30 percent.

Player to Watch: Zach Hyman has two goals and two assists over his last four games, and his 76 points stunningly rank just fourth on the team. Keep an eye on the 30-year-old forward, who has six goals and four assists in 13 games against the Coyotes.
