Preston Hollow church plans $60 million in renovations and expansions

Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in North Dallas is planning a $60 million expansion and renovation project, the church announced in a press release today.
The church has launched a capital campaign to fund the project and said it has already raised 89% of its goal through member donations.
Renovations will be made to the main sanctuary and the classrooms at Saint Michael Episcopal School, which serves children aged 1 through kindergarten. The project also includes construction of a new atrium, parish hall, indoor play spaces and a cafe. New garden and green spaces will be available as well.
“We have an unprecedented opportunity to begin the next chapter of Saint Michael’s legacy and energize our church for the future,” said the Rev. Christopher Girata, the church’s rector, in the press release.

Led by Dallas firm Beck Architecture, the project is slated for completion by 2026, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The filing states about 59,000 square feet of renovation will happen in phase 1, 75,000 square feet of expansion in phase 2 and 7,500 square feet of sanctuary renovation in phase 3.

Saint Michael’s is also leasing almost 4 acres of property to Dallas developer Lincoln Property Co. The company is constructing two new buildings — a 13-story office tower and 15-story residential high-rise — slated for completion by the end of the year. It is also building an underground parking garage that will be shared with the church.
The church has pledged 15% of the income from the lease will go to its operating budget and 85% to its charitable arm, the All Angels Foundation. The foundation supports the long-term maintenance of the church and charitable causes. At least 51% of the income will be given to charity.
The Rev. Kenneth Brannon, the church’s vice rector, said none of the money from the lease will fund the church’s expansion and renovation project.
Founded in 1945, Saint Michael’s calls itself one of the largest Episcopal parishes in the country. It has around 6,000 members who receive communion.
