President Donald Trump golfs with Packers great Brett Favre

Favre #Favre

President Donald Trump golfed on Saturday with a new athletic guest: Green Bay Packers Hall of Famer Brett Favre.

The pair teed off at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey as the president took a break from managing the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Favre is the latest athlete to get a round in with Trump, a group that includes golfers Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, Annika Sorenstam, John Daly, Gary Player and Lexi Thompson, as well as names like Tom Brady and members of the Washington Nationals.

The Packers great has shown support for Trump’s Republican Party in the last few years, endorsing former Senator Thad Cochran and appearing in an ad for incumbent Cindy Hyde Smith. Favre has donated to Democratic candidates in the past as well.

Favre has also found himself in hot water a couple times in recent years. His reception of $1.1 million in Mississippi welfare funds for appearances he never made led to an outcry, and also had some explaining to do after getting duped by white supremacists into making an anti-Semitic video on Cameo.

Trump and Favre do have a notable political disagreement in the world of sports though, as Favre has praised Colin Kaepernick to the point of saying the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback will be remembered as a hero in the vein of Pat Tillman. Trump has sharply criticized Kaepernick’s racial justice protests in the past, though he recently supported a return to the NFL “if he deserves it” as a player.
