Prep highlights: Brighton golfers win tournament at Kensington

Andrew Daily of Brighton shot 71 to tie for second place in the Green/Black/Gold/Orange Invitational at Kensington Metropark Golf Course.

Brighton shot 299 to win the Green/Black/Gold/Orange Invitational by two strokes over Northville Thursday at Kensington Metropark Golf Course.

Winston Lerch of Brighton shot 71 to tie for second place in the Green/Black/Gold/Orange Invitational at Kensington Metropark Golf Course.

Howell was sixth in the 14-team tournament with a 318.

Brighton seniors Andrew Daily and Winston Lerch tied for second out of 70 golfers by shooting 71s.

Matt Doyle tied for 13th with a 78 and Levi Pennala tied for 16th with a 79 to complete Brighton’s score.

Nolan Cuellar shot 78, Gavin Hill 79, Luke Downing 80 and Hayden Sturos 81 for Howell.

Temperance Bedford 160, Ann Arbor Huron 175, Pinckney 191

Luke Jenkins tied for fifth place with a 43 to lead Pinckney at Legacy Golf Club in Ottawa Lake.

Baseball

Howell’s JT Thomas drove in four runs in the first game, while Logan Leppek (three innings) and Cooper Bradac (two) combined for a one-hitter.

Owen Elsey and Andrew Hiller each drove in three runs in the second game for Howell (9-5). Mason Allan had two hits and drove in the only run in the twinbill for Pinckney (2-4).

Cooper Andrzejewski threw a one-hitter and struck out eight in the first game, while Logan Santana fanned nine and allowed three hits and no runs in six innings in the nightcap for Brighton (7-2).

Ryan Metz was 3-for-3 with two RBI and Conner Prahl 2-for-3 with two RBI in the first game.

In the second game, Carter Gregg was 4-for-4 and Hunter Hopman was 3-for-4 for Brighton.

Caleb Moore’s two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning capped a three-run rally that began with the Sentinels trailing 4-2. Chris Petroski led off the sixth with a single and scored on a triple by Aidan Liedeke.

Moore struck out eight in 4 2/3 innings.

In the second game, Stockwell (7-1) scored all six runs in the second inning. Trevor Hogland went 3-for-3.

Ionia 17, Fowlerville 3

Fowlerville 10, Ionia 4

Griffin Gonzalez and Mikey Hatfield each drove in four runs in the second game to help Fowlerville gain a split. Brian Webber drove in two runs in the first game for the Gladiators (3-6).

Hartland pitcher Kylie Swierkos continued her hot start, striking out 10 batters in five innings in the first game and two in two innings of relief in the second game. She allowed four hits, one unearned run and no walks.

In 24 innings, Swierkos has 46 strikeouts while allowing no walks and only one earned run for a 0.29 ERA.

Abby Gardner homered in the first game for Hartland (6-0). Jaylen Nokovich was 3-for-4 with four RBI and Sadie Malik was 3-for-4 in the second game.

Howell 10, Dexter 2

Howell’s Jada Challiss drove in five runs in the second game, her third performance of at least four RBI in seven games. Lainey Byrd had two triples.

In the opener, Delaney Gillett allowed one hit and fanned seven in five innings and Addison Caldwell was 3-for-4 for Howell (6-2).

Fowlerville 14, Ionia 4

Fowlerville 14, Ionia 1

Molly Lamar was 5-for-6 with five RBIs in the doubleheader for Fowlerville (3-4), which snapped a four-game losing streak.

The Gladiators scored 10 runs in the fourth inning of the opener to break a 3-3 tie. Heidi Curd had a home run and three RBI, Kiely Davis was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Tori Briggs struck out 12 batters in six innings for Fowlerville.

In the second game, Angelle Haan homered and Tommi Kleinschmidt was 3-for-3 for the Gladiators. Katie Bigos allowed one run in five innings.

Track and field

Trojan relays

Charyl Stockwell senior Adam Surowiec won the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 5.5 inches at Whitmore Lake.

Soccer

Brighton 2, Howell 0

Kate Carrico and Anna VanKannel scored for Brighton (2-1-2). Jesse Gerych recorded the shutout, Brighton’s sixth straight against Howell.

Also in the KLAA, Hartland lost 3-1 to top-ranked Northville.

Boys lacrosse

Brighton 12, Cranbrook-Kingswood 6

Ryan Velarde and Riley Conlen each had three goals for unbeaten Brighton (6-0). Ridge Boehmer made 16 saves for the Bulldogs.

Brighton B 9, Salem 4

Zach Watkins scored three goals and Matt Skocyals two for Brighton.
