Nashville, Tenn. (January 12, 2021) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the team has claimed defenseman Luca Sbisa on waivers from the Winnipeg Jets.

Sbisa, 30 (1/30/90), tallied 10 points (2g-8a), 37 penalty minutes and a +1 rating in 44 games with the Jets in 2019-20. In addition to hitting the 10-point mark for the sixth time in his career, he was also third among Winnipeg defensemen in blocked shots (71) and averaged 1:57 of shorthanded ice time, the fifth-most among team skaters. Entering his 13th career NHL campaign, Sbisa has appeared in 548 games – 227 of which came during a five-year stint with the Anaheim Ducks from 2009-14 – and has posted 20 goals and 113 points. The 6-foot-3, 204-pound blueliner’s 1,048 hits since his first full NHL campaign in 2010-11 are the 30th-most among League defensemen in that time span.

Originally drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round (19th overall) of the 2008 NHL Draft, Sbisa has suited up for 32 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, including five in the 2018 Stanley Cup Final with the Vegas Golden Knights. The Ozieri, Italy, native competes for Switzerland – the country he moved to as a child – on the international stage and has frequently played alongside Predators Captain Roman Josi, most notably during the 2016 World Cup of Hockey with Team Europe, earning silver, and at the 2010 Olympics.
