Warning: Contains spoilers for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #101!If there is one thing people know about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, it’s that they can fight. The question then becomes which member of the original team would come out on top, and in the latest issue from Boom! Studios, fans get their answer.

The Power Rangers are a collection of teens, typically from the city of Angel Grove, who are granted special powers by the bodiless alien Zordon to battle against the likes of Rita Repulsa and other enemies. The Teens with Attitude have saved the planet and their home from countless cosmic threats, and when one of the rangers moves on, Zordon appoints another teen to take their place. In the current run of Boom! Studios’ Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the team consists of White Ranger Tommy Oliver; Green Ranger Matthew Cook; Red Ranger Rocky DeSantos; Black Ranger Adam Park; Yellow Ranger Aisha Campbell; and Pink Ranger Kimberly Ann Hart. It is important to note that though their weaponry, powers, and Zords are all given to them through the Morphin Grid, each ranger still has different natural abilities, skill sets, and fighting prowess, and their morphers may give them greater strength and speed but do not change who they are or how well they can fight.

In Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #101 by Melissa Flores and Simona Di Gianfelice sees the team sparring as part of a training exercise. Readers get to see the rangers go toe-to-toe with their Morphin Grid weapons, but also their natural combat skills, and by the end fans get an indication of who took out who with Aisha and Kimberly both coming out on top. This gives fans a fascinating ranking of the current team’s combat prowess. The Red and Black Rangers fall first, followed by Green and White, with Yellow and Pink emerging victorious.

In the comic panels, the defeated rangers are marked with the paint color of the ranger who beat them. Thus, readers can see that Yellow Ranger, Aisha, personally took out Green Ranger Matt, while it is indicated that Pink Ranger Kimberly, was the one who defeated White Ranger Tommy. The Red and Black Ranger each took each other out of the match with a double kill, as Rocky is painted black and Adam is painted red. What this sparring exercises shows is that despite Tommy’s leadership and power as the White Ranger, even he is not unbeatable when it comes to his teammates, and that it is actually the two women rangers that possess the better combat skills. This in itself is a fun revelation for fans, especially when it comes to Kimberly, the original Pink Ranger, as her combat skills were often downplayed in the original TV show. However, here fans see how far she has come as a Power Ranger and as a fighter, being able to stand toe-to-toe with Tommy Oliver and claim victory.

The results of this combat exercise only apply to the earthbound team, as other teams – like the Omega Rangers – would likely be even more capable and powerful. Yet, this team of Power Rangers is by far the most iconic, and now fans finally have an idea of where each member stands in terms of their comparable fighting skills.
