Portland’s cool morning hints at fall. Partly sunny skies Tuesday; high 75

Good Tuesday #GoodTuesday

Portland will start off Tuesday with a cool morning and most locations seeing temperatures in the 50s. Does it feel a bit like fall? The high temperature may reflect that when the day warms to about 75 degrees.

The National Weather Service says to expect increasing clouds today as a system in the Pacific moves close to the shoreline and brings some light rain to parts of the coast from about Tillamook northward. Far southwestern Washington and northwestern Oregon could see some rain during the day.

Portland will see some clouds, but skies should stay partly sunny. Smoke has moved off to east of the Cascades, and Portland clocked in with “good” air quality at 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to AirNow.gov.

The metro area has a slight chance of showers overnight, and skies will be mostly cloudy.

Wednesday will start cloudy, then gradually clear to sunny skies. High temperatures will rise a few degrees, with the daytime high reaching about 79.

Summer returns Thursday as the metro area sees a sunny day with highs near 90 degrees. The weather service says much of the Willamette Valley has an 80% to 90% chance of seeing temps reach 90 degrees. But that should be the warmest we get. There’s only a 15% chance of Portland and Salem reaching temps above 95 degrees.

Extended forecasts show more clouds moving northward from California and possibly contributing to thunderstorms in the valley on Friday and into the weekend. Temperature probabilities are still in flux with many models showing warm days into the weekend.
