‘Poor’… Tim Sherwood slams £13m Newcastle player after his display vs Nottingham Forest

Tim Sherwood has slammed Dan Burn after a ‘poor’ performance for Newcastle United against Nottingham Forest today.

Newcastle were bidding to get back to winning ways following a disappointing defeat at Luton Town over the weekend.

Eddie Howe’s side got off to a brilliant start against Forest and were rewarded with an early goal.

Alexander Isak stroked his penalty past Matt Tuner in the 22nd minute. But Forest bounced back just before halftime as Chris Wood came back to haunt his former side.

The 32-year-old then went on to grab another two in the second half, wrapping up a hat-trick at St James’ Park.

And Tim Sherwood was unimpressed with Dan Burn’s defending for Wood’s second of the game.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Sherwood claimed that Wood beat Burn far too easily right before netting his second goal.

“Elanga picks the ball up, he’s just too quick for everyone,” Sherwood said. “Isak tries to take him down and pulls him down to the floor. Chris Kavanagh plays a brilliant advantage.

“The ball goes through to Chris Wood, he’s on his own, he’s surrounded by Newcastle players – about three or four of them.

“Dan Burn goes over towards him and he twists him inside out. He’s been poor, just been brought off as well.

“Wood goes towards Dubravka, who came out, and he dinks it over the top of him. Fantastic finish.”

Burn returned to action 10 days ago in the 3-0 win over Fulham after he was ruled out for a month with a back injury.

The £13 million man now faces added competition for a place in Howe’s side, with Tino Livramento impressing in his debut campaign at Newcastle.

Livramento replaced Burn in the 55th minute at St James’ Park today and it’s fair to say the former Brighton man will want to forget about this game quickly.

The 31-year-old has been exceptional for Newcastle since joining back in January this year. But he was way below his usual best today as the Magpies suffered a 3-1 defeat at home.
